Section 504

Section 504 is a part of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 that prohibits discrimination based upon disability.  Section 504 is an anti-discrimination, civil rights statute that requires the needs of students with disabilities to be met as adequately as the needs of the non-disabled are met. To be protected under Section 504, a student must have or be regarded as having a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.  A section 504 plan works to mitigate the disability and even the playing field in order to provide a free and appropriate education. Rogers ISD strives to meet the needs of all students in our District with or without a disability.  Through Child Find, students will be referred for a §504 evaluation as needed. The §504 committee is responsible for disaggregating a variety of data points and determining placement. For any questions related to your student’s Section 504 plan, a referral for Section 504 or general information about Section 504, please contact your student's School Counselor.

504 Child Find Notice Pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the District has a duty to identify, refer, evaluate and if eligible, provide a free, appropriate public education to disabled students. For additional information about the rights of parents of eligible children, or for answers to any questions you might have about identification, evaluation and placement into Section 504 programs, please contact your student's School Counselor.
